Potwory pojawiają się zwykle między 6 a 9 miesiącem życia psa. Czasem później. Zależy od psa właśnie.
Potworem może być wszystko: stojące krzywo drzewo, dobrze znany od dawna znak drogowy, mostek na rzece. Ten ostatni dał się we znaki Lei, kiedy miała jakieś 9 miesięcy. Przechodziła przez niego wiele razy, aż nagle okazało się, że jest to okropny potwór, który może w każdej chwili zaatakować. Co wtedy robić?
Nie użalać się nad psem, bo uwierzy, że niebezpieczeństwo jest realne i będzie jeszcze gorzej. Nie wolno też na siłę psa ciagnąć, bo to również pogarsza sytuację.
Po pierwsze należy wyłączyć emocje, żadnej złości, współczucia, nic. Udajemy, że nic się nie dzieje - bo faktycznie się nie dzieje - oprócz tego, że nasz "bohater" ma wielką ochotę na powrót do domu.
Ja zawsze robiłam tak, że podchodziłam do obiektu i dotykałam. Lea wtedy widziała, że jest okey i podchodziła również. Z mostkiem było tak, że po prostu na nim usiadłam i czekałam co się wydarzy. Po chwili Lea do mnie podeszła, powąchała "potwora" i już było ok. Przeszła po nim bez problemu.
I znowu widać na tym przykładzie, jak ważna jest socjalizacja, skoro dobrze znane i przyjazne miejsca mogą wywołać strach a nawet panikę.

Monsters appear usually when a dog starts to be a puppy, and stops being a baby, which is around 6th month, and lasts till 9th month. But it also depends on the dog itself. Sometimes they never appear. A monster can be anything: a curved tree, a road sign, a bridge over the river.  The last one was my Lea's monster. She new the bridge very well, she went across it several times, and suddenly it turned out that the bridge is a terrible monster, and she refused even to come closer. In such a case never, ever show your compassion. You will only prove the danger to be real. Do not drag your dog towards things he is afraid of, it will worsen the situation. What I did in such cases was approaching the "monster" myself and touching it. When Lea saw it, she came closer, and after a while she was not afraid. So, I sat on the bridge and waited. She came to me, sniffed the bridge, and the "monster" disappeared.
Well, it is another proof that socialization is vital because even well known things can cause problems at certain age.
